31-Jul-07 Take a look at the new Database of Zeolite Structures
The Database of Zeolite Structures has been completely redesigned to make navigation more intuitive and to present the data in a new format. Give it a test ride! The 3D drawings are especially entertaining...
Report any problems to Christian Baerlocher.

This is the first in a series planned by the Commission

23-Apr-07 Joseph V. Smith 1928-2007

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Professor Joseph V. Smith on April 6, 2007. His publications on zeolite structures and framework achitectures have fascinated zeolite scientists for almost 50 years, and will be sorely missed. He served as a consultant and as a member of the Structure Commission of the IZA from its inception in 1977 until 2001. Some more details on his life and achievements have been compiled by the University of Chicago, where he was the Louis Block Professor Emeritus in Geophysical Sciences, and by Werner H. Baur, a fellow zeolite crystallographer.

4-Apr-07 New editions of the

Atlas of Zeolite Framework Types

and the

Collection of Simulated XRD Powder Patterns for Zeolites

will be distributed as part of the registration package for the IZC-15 in Beijing this August.
If you will not be able to attend the IZC, but would still like to get copies of these two books, you should contact your regional Zeolite Association immediately to place an order.

26-Feb-07 The Structure Commission has approved two new framework type codes
  IMF IM-5
  TOL Tounkite-like mineral

15-Dec-06 The Award Committee is soliciting nominations for the 2007 Breck Award. They should be received no later than January 31, 2007. For more details, click here.

13-Nov-06 The Structure Commission has approved seven new framework type codes
    EZT EMM-3
    FAR Farneseite
    IWV ITQ-27
    MSE MCM-68
    SIV SIV-7
    SZR SUZ-4
    TUN TNU-9

11-Oct--6 The Northeast Corridor Zeolite Association now has a website
    at http://www.necza.org/

17-Jul-06

A zeolite deposit has been sampled offshore from Australia and indications are that it is high percentage clinoptilolite. Estimated reserves are 400 million tonnes. We are seeking expressions of interest from potential developers of this deposit and will consider all offers.

3-May-06 Lovat V.C. Rees
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Professor Lovat Rees on May 1, 2006. He was a pioneer in many areas of zeolite science - the theory and applications of zeolite adsorption and cation exchange, and the use of novel methods such as those of Mossbaur spectroscopy, Szilard-Chalmers recoil and frequency response techniques. He received many well deserved honours - including the IZA Award, the Eminent Visitors award of the South African Catalysis Society, and an Award from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science. His longstanding links with China resulted in the award of a Full Professorship for Life from Fushun University and the Chinese Government Friendshiop Award. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and held an Honorary Fellowship of the Federation of European Zeolite Associations.

Lovat is perhaps best known in the zeolite community for the science and hospitality of the BZA Chislehurst Conferences that he introduced in 1981 and organized every three years with the help of his wife Elizabeth until 1999. He founded the journal Zeolites and the Chemical Abstract service for zeolites. He also co-founded the British Zeolite Association and served as its first President.

The zeolite community has lost not only an outstanding zeolite scientist, but also a very good friend.

20-Apr-06 IZA membership is valid for 6 years - do you need to reconfirm?
So that our records remain up-to-date, IZA membership is only valid for 6 years. However, it can be renewed at any time. To see if you need to reconfirm your membership, check your entry in the IZA Address Database. The date last modified is the date used to calculate the membership duration. To reconfirm your interest in being a member of the IZA, simple click on "EDIT your entry", make any necessary changes to your data, and click on "submit updated address" (even if you have made no changes). An e-mail requesting confirmation will then be sent to your e-mail address. In future, participation in an International Zeolite Conference will cause membership to be renewed automatically.

16-Feb-06 John D. Sherman
It is with great sadness that we report the death of John D. Sherman, retired UOP Fellow. Most recently John had been a Consultant with UOP, and was on the faculty at University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1966 from MIT, and prior to joining Union Carbide Corporation in 1969, he spent four years as an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at MIT and 3 years at Norton Company, where he was active in a variety of projects, involving zeolites, catalysts, and catalyst carriers. After joining UCC/UOP, John became the senior scientist in adsorption fundamentals, and participated heavily in virtually all activities associated with the use of molecular sieves as adsorbents. He contributed not only to fundamental understanding of adsorption phenomena, but also to scale-up and manufacturing problem-solving, and to market development as well.

28-Jan-06 The Structure Commission has approved two new framework type codes
