Elemental analysis
The elemental composition of the samples was determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy in a Unicam M Series Flame-AAS equipment with an FS 95 autosampler and a GF 95 graphite furnace.

Porosity
Porosity was determined from N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms recorded on an automated PMI Sorptomatic 1990 instrument at liquid N2 temperature (77 K).
The samples were outgassed in vacuum for 2 h at 523 K prior to adsorption.

Concentration of acid sites
IR spectroscopy was used to determine the acid site concentrations of zeolites with pyridine as the probe molecule. All spectra were collected at 423 K on a Nicolet 5700 FT-IR spectrometer. Zeolites were pressed into wafers and pre-treated in vacuum (p < 10-5 mbar) at 723 K for 1 h. Then they were exposed to pyridine. After outgassing for 1 h to remove physisorbed pyridine, a spectrum was collected for calculating overall BAS and LAS. Then the sample was heated up to 723 K for 30 min to determine strong BAS and LAS.
